Homeland Security

Since 911, the world has undergone a paradigm shift in the international threat scenario. Singapore has not been spared from the threat of terrorists who can deploy home-made explosives (HMEs) and improvised-explosive devices (IEDs) to carry out attacks.

ATREC recognises a need to understand more about HMEs and IEDS. With strong support from Ministry of Defence (MINDEF) and various agencies from the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), ATREC has acquired unique capabilities to synthesize or concoct HMEs and assemble IEDs. The knowledge gained from R&D studies and experimental trials are constantly promulgated to the relevant agencies to better equip our first responders against these threats. Today, ATREC has emerged as the centre of excellence for studying HMEs threats.
